Inclusive Emergency Preparedness

Emergency Preparedness Saves Lives. There are many things people can do to prepare for a natural or manmade emergency, There are however, many people who are unable to prepare in manageable and effective ways. Older adults, people with disabilities, people with low literacy skills, people with low income and people who speak English as a second language, are those most likely to perish in a disaster. Join us to be part of the discussion of how libraries can help all members of the community be prepared for an emergency.

Valerie Lewis served as the Outreach and Americans with Disabilities Act Liaison for nearly three decades at the Suffolk Cooperative Library System. Ms. Lewis has worked closely with FEMA and local emergency management professionals, on ensuring the inclusion of people with disabilities and other access needs in the emergency preparedness and recovery process.
